Biology is the study of life, and this introductory course in biology spans two semesters. BI101 covers the smaller scales of biology: biochemistry, cells, cellular processes (cellular respiration, photosynthesis and DNA processing), and human organs and organ systems. BI102 covers the larger scales of biology: ecology, biological diversity, evolution.
BI101/102 is a fairly large lecture course that focuses on building a strong base of knowledge for students, emphasizing important basic ideas and scientific terminology. It is a prerequisite for all other biology courses and also fulfills a laboratory science credit for non-majors.
