Tracing back through Ph.D. supervisors, I see my supervisor Jan Minac, his supervisor Paulo Ribenboim, then Wolfgang Krull, Alfred Loewy, C.L. Ferdinand Lindemann, C. Felix Klein… From the front page of the mathematics genealogy project website, we are eventually (a strange term going backwards) led to Gauss and Euler. Hopefully something rubbed off!
